Project Details

Fifty glass lantern slides from the 1920s and 1930s document more than two dozen gardens in the Borough of Essex Fells, New Jersey, many of which no longer exist. These images capture a design realm in the early twentieth century that was typically left to women who transformed a love of gardening into community awareness and engagement.
